Monitoring beyond uptime

An uptime check tells you a site is down after it happens. I watch the things that take sites down – DNS, certificates, domain renewals and your key services – so problems are caught before your customers notice.

At a glance

Who it’s for

Any business whose website, email or online services can’t afford to quietly break.

Plans

Works on any Cloudflare plan, or without Cloudflare at all.

Cost

Part of an ongoing care retainer, alongside regular reviews.

When something fails

You and your team get the alert too. I look into it and tell you what happened and what to do next.

What I check

More than “is it up?”

Plenty of outages aren’t a server falling over. They’re a certificate that expired, a DNS record someone changed, a domain that wasn’t renewed or an email record that went missing. Each one is easy to check for, and easy to miss.

Monitoring catches them while they’re still a warning, not an outage.

I keep watch on

How it runs

Set up once, then watched

1

List what matters

Together we list your domains, sites and services, and what “working” means for each one.

2

Set up the checks

A check for each, and who gets told when one fails.

3

Look into alerts

When a check fails, I find out why, tell you what happened and what to do next, and fix it if it’s in scope.

4

Review regularly

What was seen, what’s changed, and what’s due to expire next.

Good to know

Before you start

When it’s Cloudflare itself

Even Cloudflare has bad days. Monitoring tells you whether a problem is yours or theirs. What happens when Cloudflare goes down covers what you can do about it.

Old records, new risks

A DNS record pointing at a service you’ve stopped using can let someone else serve content on your domain. Dangling DNS explains how.

Part of ongoing care

Monitoring sits alongside regular reviews and help when you need it. See how I work for the ways to work with me.
